Sri Lanka's military says the Tamil Tiger rebellion is over. The rebel leader is dead and a three-decade quest for an independent Tamil homeland is at an end.
After days of military action aimed at crushing the rebels, the Sri Lankan government says it's put an end to a civil war that's lasted for 25-years.
The army has confirmed the death of the group's chief and other high ranking rebel leaders.
Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, Military Spokwsman, said, "Some of the dead bodies we recovered, during the confrontations and it was confirmed that LTTE leader's son Charles Anthony is dead and we found his dead body."
Sri Lanka's President is scheduled to address parliament on Tuesday to proclaim victory and announce a formal conclusion to the conflict.
However, demonstration erupted in both Geneva and Brussels.
