The Los Angeles Lakers have won their 15th NBA Championship. In Game 5 of the finals, the Lakers took control during the second quarter and overwhelmed the Orlando Magic 99-86 to win the series 4-games-to-1. Kobe Bryant won the Finals MVP award and he scored 30 points in game 5.
Magic got into a solid start despite trailing the series 3-1.
Midway in the first quarter, Hedo Turkglou fed up Dwight Howard, who finished with an easy lay-up. Magic 13-6.
With over 5 minutes remaining, Kobe Bryant cooly knocked down a three, cutting the deficit to 4. Magic 19-15.
Midway in the second, the Lakers would fight back strong. Trevor Ariza hit a three, the Lakers took the lead. Lakers 42-40.
Over 2 minutes before break, the Lakers pulled away during this quarter. Ariza drove in for a lay-up, giving LA double digit cushion. Lakers 54-42.
Mindway in the third, Rafer Alston nailed a baseline three, Magic managed to trim the deciit to 5. Lakers 58-53.
