The performing arts in Shanghai have attracted many celebrity bands or ensembles to perform, and over the years, a mature audience base has been developed. Producers are also taking internet polls to get audience feedback and find out which programs they would like to watch.
Qian Shijin, artistic supervisor of Shanghai Grand Theater, said, "We attract audiences through first-class programs and affordable ticket prices."
To help more residents access high-quality shows, some theaters offer tickets for as low as thirty or fifty yuan. Both Shanghai Grand Theater and Shanghai Oriental Art Center have a classical music series that offers discount ticket prices. In the days leading up to the World Expo event, Shanghai is promoting itself as a cultural metropolis through vibrant stage performances.
