US President Barack Obama has affirmed a strong relationship with Kuwait during his meeting with the emir. He held talks with Sheik Sa-bah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the White House on Monday.
Obama praised the role of Kuwait as an "outstanding host" during the US military forces' operation in Iraq.
Barack Obama, US President, said, "And as we transition our operations in Iraq, it's important for us to emphasize not only our gratitude to Kuwait, but also our ongoing commitment to Kuwait's security."
The two sides also discussed issues facing the region and agree it's in their common interest to foster Mideast peace and security.
Sheik Sa-bah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, said, "I affirmed to President Obama that we are interested in bringing about peace to the Middle East. It is in our interest that peace be brought about, and the indicator is that this Arab peace initiative that was agreed upon by all of the Arab partners and states, and we will implement this peace initiative when Israel implements and fulfills its obligations."
Obama expressed confidence the two countries can strengthen not only their ties, but also create a more stable region of peace and security.
