More than 30 people were poisoned, and 100 fell ill, from an ammonia gas leak on Wednesday. The leak occurred at a pharmaceutical plant in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

It was reported that a truck carrying 50 tons of liquid ammonia was unloading at the Chi-feng Pharmaceutical Factory, when the leak occured. Local authorities then tested the area's water supplies for ammonia contamination. An initial investigation suggested, that the leak was caused by old pipes and workers failing to operate equipment properly. People within a 2-kilometer downwind radius of the leak, have been evacuated.
