The announcement of the return of Michael Schumacher to F1 re-invigorated race fans and even some of the best racers in the world. It came at a good time for F1 as well, as the sport has gone through a trying year. But, now that excitement is gone.
Michael Schumacher has announced he is calling off his much-anticipated Formula One comeback due to lingering injury concerns.
Michael Schumacher has informed Ferrari officials that he will be unable to temporarily step in for the injured Felipe Massa at the European Grand Prix in Valencia later this month.
The German made the announcement on his official website on Tuesday. He stated that fractures in his head and neck caused by a motorcycle accident in February are still too severe for him to return to racing. Schumacher's press officer Sabine Kehm gave the details in a phone interview.
Luca Badoer takes Shumacher's place
Official reserve Luca Badoer will now drive for Ferrari in Valencia.
