As the 60th anniversary of the founding of new China draws near, China's movie industry is presenting a gift of 30 films, and the body of work was publicized by hundreds of artists at a ceremony in Beijing on Wednesday.
The 30 films are currently on screens across China, including epics like "The Great Cause of New China's Foundation", and "SHAKING THE EARTH", suspense films like "The Message", as well as the documentary "Chang'an Avenue", and an animated feature "The Magic Aster".
"The Great Cause of New China's Foundation" and "The Message" were the most anticipated movies promoted at the ceremony. "The Message" features popular Chinese mainland actresses Zhou Xun, and Li Bingbing with actors Zhang Hanyu and Huang Xiaoming. Since the movie is a spy thriller, they stay in character by refusing to reveal any secrets about the movie.
Actress Zhou Xun said, "We must keep the director's rule. It is a spy war film, if we tell you the ending, the audience will not go to the cinema."
"The Great Cause of New China's Foundation" is the most star-studded movie in Chinese history. Half of the 150 participating actors are super stars in China. The appearance of actors Hu Ju, Chen Hao, Wu Junmei, Deng Chao, and Wang Baoqiang was the highlight of the night. Although some of them only play a minor character and have only one speaking line, they are proud to be a part of such an important work.
Actoe Liu Jin said, "I played Premier Zhou Enlai. I sing the "Internationale" with five other senior leaders and I sing the first sentence."
Actress Miao Pu said, "I played a meeting participant and I had only one sentence. I told Chairman Mao I was very excited."
Actor Wang Baoqiang said, "I acted a PLA soldier and Ge You played the colonel. I told him there is a lord's house, but the wall is too high and solid, and we need artillery."
The films will be screened in Chinese cities through October 20th, and will run in rural areas until the end of the year.
