Long before the Dalai's visit, religious organizations on the island were already providing relief supplies and donations for those in need. And on Sunday, more than 20,000 people from various religious groups on the island held a prayer meeting in Kaohsiung for Typhoon Morakot victims.
Master Huichuan, Kaohsiung County Buddhist Association, said, "We hope people will bid farewell to sorrows, face the future, and rebuild their lives and confidence."
Some participants questioned the Dalai's visit.
Master Xinmao, Kaohsiung County Buddhist Association, said, "The timing is not right ... it's not appropriate."
People in Kaohsiung may have different religious affiliations, but during the meeting, their representatives stood united to show that common aspirations are the most important consideration of all.
