A car parked near a security checkpoint exploded on Sunday in eastern Baghdad, killing one civilian and wounding five.
The blast went off near a former Security Department building.
The incident comes as Iraqi troops are tightening security, following the truck bombings that took place outside the government ministries in August.
Iraq has blamed an alliance between local al-Qaida affiliates and the outlawed Baath Party, based in neighboring Syria, for these attacks.
