A UN surveillance plane has crashed into a mountainside in Haiti, killing the 11 peacekeepers on board, according to United Nations officials.
A UN rescue team confirmed that there were no survivors among the 11 crew members and military personnel on the plane. The victims were Uruguayans and Jordanians.
The plane went down during a routine patrol over a Haitian town near the border with the Dominican Republic. The cause of the crash remains unknown.
The UN peacekeeping force has been in Haiti since 2004. It consists of some nine thousand military troops and police officers.
