Music China focuses on folk instruments

The annual Shanghai International Instrument Fair, better known as Music China, opened at the new International Exhibition Center on Tuesday. But this year, the spotlight is not on the mainstream western instruments, but Chinese folk instruments.
In bright red and yellow, the traditional colors used prominently in Chinese ceremonies, the imperial designed pavilion belongs to the Shanghai No.1 National Musical Instrument Factory the flagship of the Chinese instrument industry.
A huge archway with Dunhuang fresco patterns is actually a Chinese panpipe, or Pai Xiao.
This 60-year-old Erhu has special carvings on its box, which makes it more valuable.
"Dunhuang", presented by Shanghai No.1 National Musical Instrument Factory, is the most popular brand in China. This time, they have brought nearly a hundred new products, such as an ivory lute, and some miniature instruments.
According to the China Music Instrument Association, the selling of folk instruments has been on the rise this year. And with a larger number of enterprises taking part in the fair, the competition is even more intense than usual.
This year's Music China runs until Friday.
