Two suicide attackers have bombed an Islamic university in the capital, killing six people and wounding 18 others.

The blasts come days after the army launched a critical offensive against Taliban strongholds near the Afghan border.

The near simultaneous twin blasts hit a women's cafeteria and a faculty building at Islamabad's International Islamic University.

Student, International Islamic university , said, "We were in the dorm when we heard the explosion. It was very scary. Luckily, we didn't hear of any fellow Chinese students being hurt."

Student, International Islamic university , said, "I was standing in the hostel parking (lot) and I heard two large blasts after an interval of, having an interval of one minute, I think."

Student, International Islamic university , said, "I am fine, but the remaining girls are crying a lot. Some girls are very afraid, so they will live off-campus, because they are very scared of coming onto the university campus."

The attacks followed cautions by authorities earlier in the week, warning of militant attacks on schools and universities. The speculation has prompted many establishments to close.

One official says four victims died in the attacks and 18 others were wounded.

Both attackers were also killed, bringing the total death toll to six people.

No group has claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attacks, but the university president says that he suspects militant involvement.

The university's campus, on the outskirts of the city, has more than 18-thousand students. Nearly half are women.

Many students also come from abroad, including around 700 from China.

The blasts follow a string of bloody insurgent attacks around the country in recent weeks and amid warnings of more violence triggered by the start of the army's assault in South Waziristan over the weekend.
