Premier Wen highlights importance of science

Premier Wen Jiabao highlighted the importance of science in his report to the country's scientists Tuesday.
Wen Jiabao, says scientific research is both the pillar and the engine for China's modernization. For decades, generations of Chinese leaders attached great importance to the development of science and technology.
Currently, the world is undergoing a financial crisis. Only countries capable of restructuring their economic models to suit the ever changing situation will be able to ride out the crisis.
Wen Jiabao is calling on Chinese scientists to put more effort into developing renewable energy and energy-saving technologies, make breakthroughs in biology and medicine research, and to make further use of outer space and the oceans.
The premier, notes the power of the nation does not come from imitation but from innovation. Chinese scientists must rely on homegrown originality in research.
