The 2009 New Year costume comedy Panda Express, the second film directed by Wang Yuelun, will be screened nationwide on November 20th.
Panda Express continues the wild, exaggerative and amusing style of Wang's first film -- Shi Quan Jiu Mei -- a low-budget film that earned 53 million yuan at the domestic box office last year. The film's strong cast includes Liu Hua, Deng Jia-Jia, Back Dorm Boys, Pace Wu Pei-Ci, Ren Quan, A Duo, and He Jiong. Set in ancient China, the film tells the story of Wong Lo Kat, who has to fulfill his mission of escorting a giant panda to Lin'an City.
However, it's a bumpy road, fraught with frustrations and danger. The giant panda is a unique role for an actor in the film. His special costume was custom-made in Hong Kong at a cost of 20-thousand yuan. Panda Express faces some stiff competition from the other two New Year comedies, Mars Baby and The Robbers, which will debut on the same day.
