Lakers beat Knicks to top west

The Los Angeles Lakers are on top of NBA's the Western Conference standings. Kobe Bryant bagged 34 points while Pau Gasol added 11 points and 16 rebounds as L-A reached the summit with a win against the New York Knicks.

Late in the first quarter, New York's David Lee scored on the slam dunk as the Knicks kept the score close. The Knicks trying to win just their fourth game of the season.

The Lakers were trying to win their 11th game of the campaign. Bryant hit a jumper as the Lakers took a 4 point lead.

Early in the third quarter, Lee scored with another jam inside. New York trailed by 5, and had a chance for a rare win at the Staples Center.

Minutes later, Bryant danced his way inside on a drive and scored a left hand hook as the Lakers began to stretch their lead.

Midway in the third, L-A's Ron Artest knocked down an open baseline three. The Lakers extended their lead to 19 points, Artest added 17 points to the team total.

Artest drove on the baseline and delivered to Pau Gasol for a huge dunk and a 22-point Laker lead. 74-52 LA.

Bryant buried a three on the baseline. Los Angeles sealed the game for its fourth straight victory.
