At another court in Chongqing, alleged criminal boss Li Qiang was sentenced to 20 years in jail and a fine of 5 million yuan.
Li, a wealthy businessman and former deputy to the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress was convicted of 7 charges, including organizing criminal gangs, falsifying account information, and bribery.
Li made a one-hour self-vindication plea during the proceeding. Other members in his gang received jail terms from 1 to 18 years.
Wang Xingqiang and his 22 member gang received jail terms from one to 20 years. The gang was accused of monopolizing pork sales in some of Chongqing's districts and penetrating multiple businesses, carrying out business through violence and threats. The gang faced 9 charges and was the first to be accused of money laundering.
