Car bomb hits Baghdad police crime lab, at least 18 killed

A suicide car bomber has killed at least 18 and injured dozens more in a strike against a police crime lab in central Baghdad. It happened a day after several hotels were hit by suicide attacks. On Monday, at least 41 people were killed and over a hundred others were injured.

Officials say the majority of those killed on Tuesday were police officers. They worked in the forensic investigation office at Tahariyat Square in the central neighborhood of Karradah.
At least 82 people were reported injured.
Among those confirmed killed were 12 police officers and six civilians who were visiting the office.
The office targeted in the attack mainly deals with data collected during criminal investigations, including fingerprints and other pieces of evidence.
Tuesday's attack comes one day after suicide bombers struck in quick succession on Monday at three Baghdad hotels in well-planned operations.
Funerals have been held for some of those killed in the blasts.
Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports, said, "I can say that those who try to change the current government by force and through these violent acts are mistaken."
The attacks raised serious questions about the country's stability ahead of the March 7th parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, Saddam Hussein's cousin Ali Hassan al-Majid, also known as "Chemical Ali", was executed in Iraq on Monday. It's not immediately clear whether the attacks were linked to his execution.
