The United Nations has stepped up its efforts to reunite Haitian children with surviving family members following the country's devastating earthquake earlier this month. UN experts estimate there may be one million unaccompanied or orphaned children who lost at least one parent in the disaster.
Providing assistance to unaccompanied children has become the key focus for UNICEF, amidst fears that they are vulnerable both to disease and to child traffickers.
Some young Haitians are even being released from hospitals with no one to care for them. There just aren't enough beds for them.
