Chinese Military Orchestra debuts in Sydney

The Chinese People's Liberation Army Military Orchestra has made their debut at the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo, this year hosted by Sydney.
More than 15-hundred performers, many clad in kilts and playing bagpipes, converged on Australia's biggest city for the annual event, which is normally held in Edinburgh.
The Sydney Football Stadium, usually home to rugby league and soccer matches, was filled with a replica of Edinburgh Castle.
The event featured bands from across the world, including China, Russia, the US, Britain and New Zealand.
Many of the pipers and drummers came from Scotland, with their numbers boosted by pipe bands from around Australia.
It's only the third time since the event began in 1950 that it has been performed outside Scotland, including a previous visit to Sydney in 2005.
The PLA band performed a mix of traditional Chinese music, marching and dance. Their debut at the prestigious event won huge praise from their fellow military musicians, spectators, and the event's organizer.
PLA band leader Yu Hai believes such participation in the world renowned event will enhance friendship and understanding between PLA musicians and the military musicians from other countries.
Around 28-thousand people turned out to watch the opening night performance in Sydney last week. The show concluded on Sunday.
