Thousands flock to Venice to take part in the city's Carnival

The annual Venice Carnival is the highlight of the famous Italian city's calendar. At least 85,000 people are expected to visit the city to take part in this year's ten-day festivities.

 

The spectacular and colorful revival of traditional masked balls and elaborate costumes of the 18th century. The city is bursting into life with music, theater and dance.

The Venice carnival has its roots in pre-lenten festivities which began in the 13th century.

Every year, thousands of tourists come to the water city to experience the magical atmosphere of the festival.

Lucia Falco, Tourist, said, "It's been a dream of mine, something I've always wanted to do."

Lynn Tourist, said, "I feel like a celebrity just put it that way. We got our costumes this morning, we were walking around the square, everybody was taking our pictures and we'll probably have our pictures in photo albums everywhere, all over the world."

Various glamorous events are organized for visitors.

Wonderful churches, museums, restaurants and balls are all attractive for tourists.
