The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has announced the end of its avalanche rescue efforts. More than 450 people stranded in separate avalanches have been rescued.
The rescue team fought for five days to reach the residents. Helicopters were also sent for those trapped in severe avalanche conditions. Three women including one who is pregnant were among those rescued. Relief goods have also been dropped for those staying to look after stranded livestock. Weather forecasters say more snow is expected in the coming days.
