At least 500 people have been killed in communal religious violence between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.
Sunday's violence left scores dead, in three mostly Christian villages south of the regional capital of Jos. The area known as Nigeria's middle belt, separates the Muslim north from the Christian south.
Religious tensions have a long history in the region, with Muslims accusing the Christian-dominated government of discrimination.
Jos has been under a curfew enforced by the military, and it's not clear how the attackers managed to elude the military curfew early Sunday.
