Taoranting Park, in the southern part of Beijing is popular with Beijing residents for walking and boating. It is also the place Xing Liang used to visit while studying at the Beijing Dance Academy.

Xing said, "It was where I used to practice my dancing skills while studying at the academy. We were required to get up at 6:30 in the morning, and run a loop of the park. Then we would do some basic training to start the day, like pliancy practice. The winter in Beijing is very chilly. It's such a painful thing running in the early morning when it's still dark outside. You don't like it at all, but you have to do it. It's essential for a well rounded dancer. That's the way it has to be."

For a period of four years Xing had mixed feelings towards dancing. He didn't have much feeling for it.

Xing said, "After four years studying in the academy, I found my momentum. Through painstaking practice I was getting closer and closer to my goal of being the top student in my traditional dance class. I felt content and was proud of myself. I started to like dancing. It gave me a sense of achievement."

A chance encounter with modern dance led Xing Liang from the traditional Chinese dance down the path of modern dance.`

From being reluctant to dance to being crazy about modern dance, Xing Liang's career has changed dramatically. But one thing is for sure... Xing keeps on improving and winning accolades both at home and abroad.

An active figure in the dance scene, Xing Liang hopes more and more people can find a love for dance.

Xing said, "I'm willing to contribute all I've learnt to those younger than me, or even older than me, who have never experienced contemporary dance but are eager to know more about this art form. I want to share with them all I know."
