The death toll from the 7.1-magnitude earthquake in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Qinghai Province has risen to 760. More than 11,000 people are injured. Nearly 1,200 are in a severe condition.
Rescuers have pulled more than 1,000 survivors out of the rubble. Over 85 percent of houses in Gyegu, the quake's epicenter have collapsed. The quake has toppled 15 thousand homes, leaving almost all residents living near the epicenter homeless. It has also triggered landslides.
Many temples have been destroyed in the region. Rescue headquarters say more than 7 thousand rescuers have been carrying out search and rescue operations in the Gyegu town, with more arriving to help.
