Overseas Chinese help quake victims

The massive earthquake that hit Yushu has struck a sympathetic chord among overseas Chinese worldwide. They are doing what they can to help out the ongoing rescue and relief work.
"When disaster strikes, help comes from all sides." This well known Chinese saying... is now very much being put into practice.
This is Qin Xiqiu, an eighty year old man living in Thailand.
On April the 20th, he went to the Chinese embassy in Bangkok, and donated 100,000 yuan for the relief work in Yushu.
And donations from overseas Chinese are not simply limited to Qin Xiqiu's offer.
In Brazil, overseas Chinese have come together to donate money to quake-stricken victims.
They also held a candle-lit vigil in Rio de Janeiro.
An overseas Chinese said, "Difficulties can bring out the love of every person. It should be everyone's duty to express care for our compatriots."
In Australia, an Overseas Chinese association has held charity activities to raise funds for Yushu.
An overseas Chinese said, "I hope that every Chinese can try their best to help people in Yushu to rebuild their new homes."
Meanwhile, fund-raising drives have been held by overseas Chinese in countries including the United States, Britain, Japan, Canada and the Netherlands.
These overseas Chinese say that although they live abroad, they want to do everything they can to help the relief effort.
