Rain is letting up in Southern China for now. Storms over the past several days have caused damage to many areas across the region. And meteorologists are forecasting a 6th round of rainfall from Wednesday, although the storms are expected to be less severe.
Many roads collapsed after sudden heavy rainstorms hit Dingnan County in Jiangxi Province.
The local government went into action, organizing emergency repairs.
Huang Ming, Technician, Dingnan Transport Bureau, said, "We have left some equipment in the town, so we can respond quickly, and repair damage immediately when dangers appear. "
During this round of rainfall, most of the main rivers in Guangdong Province have stayed within safe levels. But as the rains move from eastern Guangdong to the west, the local government is asking all departments to keep a close watch, and undertake frequent checks on the situation.
During one such inspection, a potential landslide was spotted on a mountain slope near to Jiangkou Middle School in Zhaoqing. 800 teachers and students have been relocated.
Li Zhaoyang, local official, Zhaoqing, Guangdong, said, "While carrying out the checks, experts decided there were uncertainties in the area. So we decided to move the students out. "
The students are now studying in a primary school several kilometers away. Making the mountain slope safe, and ensuring the students return to their own school, will cost around 10 million Yuan.
