The 9th Asia Security Summit has entered its second day in Singapore with US Defense Secretary Robert Gates saying his government won't waiver its longstanding commitments in Asia.
In an address to the Summit, Gates said the US will continue to expand its alliances and partnerships in Asia and that it's presence in the region will be more geographically distributed, operationally resilient and politically sustainable.
The Security Summit has brought together defense ministers from 28 countries, including China, Russia and Japan.
They're discussing a wide range of issues concerning the Asia-Pacific region. The annual meeting has been taking place since 2002.
