A weight loss competition have been recently held in Beijing. Trevor Matts look at what the competitors were doing to improve their health and trim their waistlines.

 

Shi jie is a candidate in the competition. Her current weight is 120 kilograms. She wants to lose more weight under the supervision of other people. She say, she once weighed more than 150 kilograms. At that time, she was very self-conscience and didn't dare go out.

Shi Jie, Candidate, said, "When I walk on the street, people would stare at me. I think they are laughing at me, because I'm fat."

Shi Jie's mother also wants to learn how to guide her daughter to lose weight in the future through this competition.

The competition will last 84 days. The purpose is to help candidates develop a healthy lifestyle through the adjustment of diet and exercise.

Wang Yousong, Coach of The Competition, said, "What we are trying to do is cultivate new habits. It includes the habit of exercise and diet. We want to make sure that they will keep losing weight after the competition."

Experts say, after the training, the health of the candidates will be improved.

Obesity is a serious health issue in China. According to data, about 23% of adults are considered overweight. And the situation of the country's children is more serious. The number of overweight children has reached 12 million. Experts predict the number of overweight citizens in China could reach 30% in the near future.

Experts also suggest the best way to keep fit is to have a healthy lifestyle. Eating meals on time, avoiding fatty foods in their diet, and exercising regularly, are the most common way to keep fit and healthy.
