China celebrates Dragon Boat Festival

There are still two days to go before the Dragon Boat Festival and people across the country have already started celebrations. Major events are taking place in various cities, each with its own special feature and creativity.

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Chinese call this day Duan-Wu.

Dragon boat racing is one of the major events to mark the festival. In southwestern China's Guangxi Zhaung Autonomous Region, an international dragon boat race has attracted 18 teams from various countries. Thousands of people come to cheer all the teams on.

Vietnamese Participant, said, "We have the tradition of holding dragon boat racing too. This can be traced back to the 19th century. We hold this event every New Year's day to pray for a prosperous year."

In Chengdu of Sichuan Province, a "Water Festival" features various activities on the water. Participants try their best to compete, while the spectators enjoy watching.

Zhou Kaibo, Participant, said, "This tug-of-war in the water only demands one third of the strength when you do it on the ground. I like it. It's a lot of fun. "

A series of Dragon Boat events have kicked off in other places including traditional performances, eating Zong zi, and wine drinking.
