The European Pavilion in the Shanghai World Expo is presenting a panorama of international films during the Shanghai Film Festival. "Global Village" offers a panoramic view of art house films from Ireland, Italy and Northern Europe.

Ireland's films being offered include Michael Collins, My Left Foot, The Secret of Kells and Five Minutes of Heaven. These films display the culture, folklore and architecture of Ireland.

In the Italian Film Week, "For Sophia" premieres for the first time at the Shanghai Film Festival. The 1000 Euros Generation, Just Married and La Pirellina are trying to reach an equilibrium between commercial benefits and artistic creation.

My Mother's Tears from Germany is entered for the Golden Tripod Awards.

Five northern European countries; Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark are presenting 13 films, which, despite their own idiosyncrasies, share the same subject matter on family life.

The film festival, which also includes Canadian and Japanese films, is gaining favorable responses from Chinese cinema-goers.

The Shanghai Film Festival concludes on Sunday night.
