President Hu Jintao has arrived in Canada for a state visit. He was greeted at the airport Wednesday by Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon. This is President Hu's first visit to the country since Prime Minister Stephen Harper took office in 2006.
Hundreds of senior executives from Chinese firms have accompanied the President to Canada. Hu Jintao will meet Harper on Thursday. Both leaders are expected to sign agreements boosting cooperation in various fields, including energy, communications, and tourism.
President Hu will also attend this weekend's G20 meeting in Toronto. China expects the summit to push the International Monetary Fund to give more representation to developing countries, and deepen the reform of the international financial supervision system. Hu Jintao is also expected to meet leaders from the US, Britain, and Japan on the sidelines of the gathering.
