The South African team may have departed this year's FIFA World Cup in the early stages but many of the country's fans believe they are the real winners of the tournament. South African football fans gathered in a bar in Soweto, to watch Spain and the Netherlands battle it out in the final game.
Many of them see, it as the culmination of a momentous month, when their country took a step forward, hosting a near perfect tournament. The feeling of national pride and a job well done resonates across the country.
Richard Mahumela, South African football fan, said, "We're still supporting the World Cup and that's the main thing. We all here in Soweto, we're supporting South Africa and we still want the World Cup to be alive."
Sphiwe Dawede, South African football fan, said, "This not only about the World Cup but it is about the country itself, that we have managed to run the World Cup safely. There where no major incidents that happened. Financially wise, the economy has grown very much, so it going to help a lot of people in that way.
