Typhoon Chanthu has left Guangdong province and entered into neighboring Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

When the third typhoon this summer made landfall in Guangdong, it brought rainstorms and gales to the coastal province. Thousands of people suffered from the fierce elements, with many houses damaged.

The typhoon Chanthu has swept the large city of Maoming in Guangdong province, bringing heavy rains and gales, damaging houses and living facilities, leaving everywhere in a mess. Chanthu has passed, but the heavy rain is continueing. Accordign to the statistics provided by the local authority, millions of people are suffered and several reservoirs are in dangerous situation. Some towns and villages in low lying areas are submerged. Residents are suffering heavy losses.

Liang Degui, Resident, Guanqiao Town, said, I have a wood processing factory of my own which are totally subermerged. I haven’t eat anything since yesterday night. I went into the factory to save the goods but most of them were rushed away with economic losses of over one hunderd thousand.

Many residents say they haven’t seen such severe flooding since 1994. Although they were noticed to flee, many haven’t left for the sake of their houses and properties.

They say they didn’t think this typhoon would bring such heavy rainstorm. Therefore many residents get trapped in the water. Rescue work organized by the government has begun since Chanthu left. Sodiers and related officials have already devoted into the rescue work.

Rescue work is carrying on not that easy. Because of the deep flood water, several parts of the road toward the disaster areas have been broken. Self-made bamboo rafts are used for transportation by local residents.

More and more flood emergency boats are sent to the disaster area, helping people passing through. Soldiers and related officials have arrived at the disaster suffered areas, organizing to rescue people who are trapped in the water. And rescue work has developed by flood emergency boats since the deepest flood water has reached the height of fist floor.
