And over three thousand people have been forced to flee their homes in the US state of Colorado, as wildfires rage through the Boulder region.

The blaze, has destroyed dozens of homes and scorched about 14-hundred hectares of land. No-one has been injured.

Firefighters are battling the wildfires with the help of helicopters and a spotter plane. Evacuations have been hampered by the failure of the area's 9-1-1 emergency system.

The cause of the fires is unknown. The local Sheriff's Office Commander says, favorable weather conditions, are needed, to help contain the blaze.

Commander Rick Brough, Boulder County Sheriff's Office, said, "We still were estimating that we've had approximately 3500 residents that have been affected by this. That's what the evacuations have been. Today, from the weather forecasts are more favorable than we had yesterday. Yesterday, as you know, we had gusts up to 40-45 miles per hour. Today what the prediction is is 3 to 6 miles per hour so that's much favorable for the firefighters today. That's going to allow us to get air tankers up in the air."
