It might be common to think skiing can only take place on snow, but some Iranian champions are now hitting the slopes at the mountain resort of Dizin to practice on grass.
Marjan Kalhor doesn't stop preparing for championship competitions when the winter months come to a close. The 22-year-old and her peers simply strap on wheeled skis, and continue whizzing down the slopes.
She said, "I think that grass skiing is like this at the moment ... it's not something that can be done recreationally, because it's highly dangerous, and I generally think the opportunities are limited throughout the world. Grass skiing is generally less popular than snow skiing -- whether it's done competitively or recreationally."
Grass skiing is one of the few ways these locally-trained champions can practice in the summer months, to keep up with their European counterparts.
Rostam Kalhor, Iranian Skiing Coach, said, "The reason that Iran's ski champions have welcomed grass skiing is that they can substitute snow with grass. To maintain their level of competition -- they continue to practice on grass."
The sport is relatively new in Iran, as It was first introduced in 1991. The country hosted the first world grass skiing championships, contested at the youth level, in early August.
