The 10th tropical storm of the season is bringing torrential rains to part of southern China. Six-meter-high waves are also crashing along the shore.
Heavy rains may pound parts of Fujian, Guangdong, Taiwan, Guangxi and Hainan in the next 24 hours. The upgraded tropical storm is approaching at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour and is expected to make landfall on the southern coastal regions between Thursday and Friday.
In order to minimize economic lossess, local governments are urging ships be recalled to port. They are also ordering the reinforcement or removal of structures vulnerable to strong winds.
