John Woo follows his triumphant return to Chinese language film with "Reign of Assassins", starring Michelle Yeoh. The director made his name in Hong Kong with choreographed action sequences, before making his mark on Hollywood with blockbusters including "Face/Off" and "Mission Impossible II."
After 16 years in Hollywood, Woo came back to the Chinese film industry two years ago, directing the two-part historical epic "Red Cliff" - a smash hit in China.
Now, he has co-directed a martial art action tale "Reign of Assassins" with its screenwriter Chao-bin Su. Woo also produced the film.
John Woo said, "My gun-fight films are just like modern martial art films. When I read Chao-bin Su's script, I liked it very much. It's not just a touching story, it's the first martial art film in which romance is key element. And it's the first time we have put female characters in the center of the story."
