Li Na reaches quarter-finals of China Open

China's best female player Li Na in action. Li, looking to move one step closer to playing for the title in her home country. A win over Germany's Angelique Kerber would earn Li a berth in the quarter-finals.

- Li, the highest Chinese seed taking part in Beijing, got her match against Kerber off to a solid start. Li, breaking Kerber in the second and fourth games to lead 4-1.

- Li would wrap up the first set fairly easily, 6-2 for the Chinese.

- And Li would race through the second set without relinquishing a game.

- Li, leading 5-0 love in the second, and with double match point in hand...got it done.

- Kerber's return goes wide and Li, is through easily to the next round.

- With the win, Li extends her record against her 22-year-old opponent to a perfect 3-0.

- Li will face Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia in the quarter-finals, who made it though sfter her opponent Nadia Petrova of Russia, the world number 17, was forced to withdraw from her match.

- In the men′s draw, Lu Yen-Hsun from Chinese Taipei took on World no.11 David Ferrer of Spain. The match turned out to be a seasaw battle.

- The Spainiard took the first set 6-3,but quickly saw his opponent level after the second. Lu, bouncing back to win the second 6-3.

However, the tenacious Ferrer strengthen his attacks in the deciding set.

Taking advantage of Lu′s enforced errors, Ferrer finally sealed the victory, winning 6-1 when Lu's backhand hit the net.

Meanwhile, Sweden's Robin Soderling also reached the quarter-finals with a 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Spain's Nicolas Almagro.
