A UN spokesman says the Haitian government, humanitarian agencies and the UN mission in Haiti are teaming up to prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Tomas. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, says the storm could affect an estimated five-hundred thousand people.

Contingency plans, have been initiated, and stocks of essential materials were mobilized over the weekend. The World Food Program has stored food supplies, sufficient to feed 1.1 million Haitians for six weeks. Warnings about the Hurricane are being sent out via SMS and radio to local Haitians. The approaching storm, is an additional burden besides managing the ongoing response to the cholera epidemic... AND the earthquake, which hapened several months ago.
