China has become the eighth largest wine consumer market in the world. Figures from the China Food Association show that China's wine production reached 960-thousand tons last year. It's an increase of around 28 percent from the previous year.
Wine production has maintained a compound growth rate of nearly 19 percent for seven years. The increase in domestic production, is borne out of an incredible increase in consumption. Traditional European wine producers are also stepping up their business in China.
According to the Berry Brothers and Rudd's Future of Wine Report, China's wineries would increase more than ten fold in the next 50 years.
