The son of the Honorary Kuomintang chairman, Lien Chan, was attacked while campaigning for an incumbent lawmaker in Taiwan's local elections. At least one other person was hit and possibly killed.

Lien Shengwen was rushed to hospital in Taipei after being hit in the face by a bullet. He's undergoing surgery for wounds on the left part of his face and his right temple. Police have a suspect in custody.

Police say Lien did not appear to be the target of the attack. The suspect says he was aiming at the councilor candidate.Meanwhile, Taiwan leader, Ma Ying-Jeou, has visited the hospital and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Ma Ying-Jeou, Taiwan Leader, said, "We severely condemn the attacker in the election campaign. We have asked the police to question the arrested suspect, and to look for accomplices."
