There's a Chinese children's play that's now almost half a century old, but every time it hits the stage, it creates a sensation. China's first and foremost children's drama - "Malan Flower" - has already done well among three generations of kids.
For Chinese as old as 50, this drama is a sweet reminder of bygone days. Since it first graced the stage in 1956, it has been performed more than 11,000 times and some even say it's the only children's play that can be called a Chinese classic.
This September, the play kicked off a nationwide tour, which took the cast and crew to Xinjiang Uygur, Ningxia Hui and Tibet autonomous regions for more than 400 performances. Beijing is the last stop of their tour.
Chang Ruoxi, Actress, said, "Take our tour to Xinjiang for example. After Xinjiang, we can call our tour a truly "nationwide tour." Children there can seldom enjoy a children's play. We hope to plant a beautiful seed in the hearts of these children."
The play tells the story of the hardworking girl Xiao Lan who is married to the god of flowers, Ma Lang. They live a very diligent and happy life.
But the greedy Old Cat encourages the jealous Elder Sister Da Lan to kill Xiao Lan in an attempt to take in her possession the magic Malan Flower. But Malan flower always blooms for diligent and hardworking people. Xiao Lan comes back to life and the Old Cat is punished.
