China's "Prince of Piano" staged a solo concert on Tuesday night that included his usual repertoire of Chopin classics. However, this time the theme was not paying tribute to Chopin, but was organized to praise those that have contributed to China's Red Cross over the last year.
Hailed for his elegant rendering of the "piano poet" Chopin, Li Yundi performed the composer's best known Nocturnes, as well as his Mazurka and piano concerto. This time Li Yundi didn't perform for just his fans, but for people that have contributed to China's Red Cross over the past year.
Li Yundi, Pianist, said, "I hope everyone can contribute to the Red Cross' cause and to people that need help. As an ordinary person, I hope do my part for the Red Cross."
"Li Yundi is very elegant, very classic. The Red Cross is an exceptional organization. I think the combination of the two is great!" Audience member said.
China was ravaged by many natural disasters last year. The Red Cross Association accepted 9.9 billion yuan worth of donations for both rescue and rebuilding efforts. The concert was a tribute to those that gave of themselves and donated.
