From the middle-East, we hear that many pedestrians are attracted these days by something on the fence of a primary school in Damascus, the capital of Syria. It's an expressionist work by a group of local artists made completely of waste materials.
The waste materials used include plates, spoons, cans and bicycle parts such as a chain. These things usually end up buried in garbage bins, but here have been turned into a supernatural work shining in the sun.
Syrian Artist, said, "Waste is now displayed in a unique and beautiful form to entertain people. Waste from our daily life can and should be recycled as they still have value in one way or another. So why not make them into gorgeous works of art?"
The artistic form featuring various mosaic patterns derives from the ancient Byzantine Empire. Influenced by cultural elements from the Orient, it became increasingly popular as a high-class decoration style. Decorating with a mosaic is universally adopted by upper-class families in the country.
Artists say they had adopted the decoration style that is rarely seen in average Syrian families, so as to raise the awareness regarding environment protection of as many people as possible.
