His unfinished 96 square-meter Hong Kong cityscape is currently on display in Hong Kong, at first glance baffled shoppers seem to see Qi floating over a thrusting network of buildings and highways.

To complete the effect, a Mini Cooper does actually burst out of the painting.

Qi Xinghua said "I named the painting "city explosion". The city is to explode as many skyscrapers are emerging everyday and highways wind across the city like whirlwinds."

Avis Simmons, a tourist from Florida, said it gave her a sense of community.

Avis Simmons, one tourist said "When I look at it, I see him painting the community. And that's one of the things that I love that he is painting to capture the community, the layout of the buildings and different shades and colors of the buildings, which I thought was really really nice."

Inspired by western 3D chalk street paintings, Qi started focussing on multi-dimensional art in 2002 having enrolled in the Central Academy of Fine Arts

Another of his paintings, "Lions Gate Gorge", was acknowledged as the world's largest 3D painting by the Guinness Book of Records in February this year.
