Viewers may have seen some of the dazzling work by Chinese director Zhang Yimou and his "Impression" series of outdoor musical productions. He and his team recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of their latest work, "Impression: Dahongpao," and now they're presenting a brand new version for audiences.

As with the previous works, the natural landscape serves as the background for the outdoor musical. Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province are where "Dahongpao," a superior type of oolong tea, originates. It's also the first ever UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage item in the category of tea.

By portraying the local villagers' attitude towards tea, the musical takes Dahongpao as a key to local identity, aiming to reinterpret the traditional tea culture in a contemporary context. Meanwhile, the directing crew kept brainstorming on adding up-to-date features to the play, attempting to connect with the modern audience.
