The debut of Apple's iPad 2 tablet computer in China generated a frenzy among Apple fans and scalpers who braved long lines to snap up the popular device. The frenzy even caused a scuffle in downtown Beijing on Saturday sending several to the hospital.
The local newspaper, the Beijing Times, reported the incident occurred at the Sanlitun Apple store when a foreign employee exited the store with a metal club and struck four people in the queue. Those hit were two young men and two middle aged women.
All four were hospitalized. Some witnesses said the violence was initiated as Apple employees tried to dispel scalpers in the crowded line. The store's front glass door was smashed in the chaos. Apple has yet to comment on the incident.
