Although receiving offers from Tsinghua or Peking University, many top students in college entrance exams have chosen to go to Hong Kong for further study.

A total of 291 mainland students have gained places at universities in Hong Kong. They include 17 provincial or city level Number One students who took the college entrance exam. Beijing science Number One, Liang Siqi, chose Hong Kong University of Science and Technology instead of Peking University and gets 560 thousand Hong Kong Dollars in a full scholarship.

Three top art students from Beijing also chose universities in Hong Kong. Staff at Hong Kong University say they are not competing with Peking University and Tsinghua University, they encourage students to choose where they want.
