The preliminary of the women's 1-meter springboard event has also been held. China's Wang Han and Shi Tingmao sit in the top two places heading into the final round.
Wang Han of People's Republic of China competes in the Women's 1m Springboard preliminary round during Day Two of the 14th FINA World Championships at the Oriental Sports Center on July 17, 2011 in Shanghai, China. |
A total of 40 contestants participated in the 1 meter springboard event. As this is a non-Olympic event, China sent some young competitors to give them the opportunity of big event experience.
Wang Han finished third in this event at the last world championships, but for Shi Tingmao, this is her first time at the worlds. They combined to win the gold in the doubles' event at the Asian championships last year.
The two girls scored the same points, 61.20 in the first round, sharing the first place. Then Wang Han continued her good run in the 4th and 5th round, and snuck ahead with 66.30 points.
Shi Tingmao was off the pace with 12 points and landed second.
