After the train collision on Saturday, the Hang Fu Shen Rail line in Wenzhou was seriously affected. On Sunday, the damaged section returned to service.
About 35 hours after the deadly train collision in Wenzhou, traffic on the rail route where the accident happened has resumed. |
At 6:57 in the morning, the DJ5603 train started from Ningbo East railway station, heading for Cangnan passing the accident site. This is the first train to officially run on this line since the collision happened. The operation of the Hang Shen Fu line, the railway connecting the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and southeast coastal areas , was seriously affected by the accident is now getting back to normal.
The ministry of Railways claims the damaged rail section was ready to open after 19:00 on Sunday following urgent repairs by 5000 workers. It says it was because of stormy weather in the evening that the service didn’t open until Monday morning.
According to South Wenzhou Railway Station, on the first day of reopening, 68 trains with about 10,000 passengers have been planned to pass the station.
Lv Xianqing, station master of South Wenzhou Station, said, "Before the accident, there were on average 82 trains delivering 12,000 passengers everyday. On the first day we had a little fewer, but I think this is normal."
However, when at South Wenzhou Railway Station there are many delays on the display board. The station master wouldn’t give any possible reasons for them . But an unidentified source claims this is because the railway bureau is now limiting trains’ speed for safety considerations. After the crash, some passengers feel doubts about the rail service.
A passenger said, "I heard about the accident and feel very sorry about it. Now I have chosen the train again because I think it can still be quick but you see, the train I am going to take has been delayed for over 2 hours. "
CCTV reporter Li Zhen said, "Now the railway has returned to operation. But as for the July 23rd accident , the investigation is far from over. How did the crash happen within such a high tech system? What are the compensation plans and how can the safety of high speed trains be guaranteed in the future? People are still waiting for answers.
